In a sustained effort to promote Filipino cuisine to the residents of Qatar, the Philippine Ambassador to Doha H.E. Wilfredo C. Santos recently launched a movement dubbed as “Kulinarya Qatar”.
The event which took place at InterContinental Doha The City on 27th August was attended by executives from various hotels in Doha, Filipino entrepreneurs and guests from various companies.
“I have been in the diplomatic service for more than two decades and I’ve always believed that food plays a major role in promoting a country’s national identity and culture,”according to Santos.
He added that “Kulinarya Qatar is a movement aimed at promoting our rich cooking traditions and at the same time enticing more tourists to visit the Philippines. It is an integral part of the Philippine Embassy’s economic diplomacy programme and supports the Visit the Philippines 2015 programme of the Philippine Department of Tourism.”
“Together, let us join hands on this journey to make the Philippines a leading culinary, tourist and business destination in Asia and in the world.”
Santos unveiled the official logo of Kulinarya Qatar and announced a series of activities aimed at establishing the campaign as a ‘brand’ epitomising Filipino dishes, cooking traditions and culinary culture.
A year long calendar of activities was shared to all the guests. One of the forthcoming big events of the Philippine embassy was the Filipino Community Family Day to be held from September 23 to 26 at the InterContinental Doha The City Hotel. Due to a bigger venue and as the event will fall on the Eid Al Adha holidays, more than 15,000 visitors are expected to visit, witness and join this event.
To boost the campaign for the Kulinarya Qatar, the project plans to launch on July 2016 the Kulinarya magazine which will promote innovative and original Filipino dishes with a touch of Arabic flavorsto eventually establish Filipino cuisine in the Arab region.
Other highlights of the Kulinarya Qatar calendar are training programme for individuals in the food industry and the introduction of more Filipino cooking products to the market of Doha. The trainings for best kitchen practices will be conducted in collaboration with the famous and high-caliber Filipino chefs.
Santos addressed confidence to the guests that Kulinarya Qatar activities will continue and will become a tradition for people in Qatar to anticipate every year.
“Together, let us join hands on this journey to make the Philippines a leading culinary, tourist and business destination in Asia and in the world,”the ambassador concluded.
